Help With Swim Meets
The success of our swim program and meets depends upon the involvement of parent volunteers. The clubs are required to supply volunteers to help run each meet, therefore, each family will be asked to help. If a parent can't commit to work the entire meet, most jobs can be shared by two volunteers. Without help from parents, there can't be any meets! A description of the jobs is listed below.
There will be a sign up sheet on the bulletin board a few days prior to each meet:
3 timers per lane. Records times of swimmers using stop watches. Middle time or average becomes
the time of record. Host team provides two timers per lane; visiting team provides one timer per lane.
1-2 per meet. Provides back-up assistance to any lane as needed.
Collects and delivers seed cards from timers to the scoring table.
Records visual placement of swimmers by lane at the end of each event. Swimmers will be
disqualified in their event if they do not start or stop the event correctly.
Completes the back of the ribbons with name, event, time and date.
Using the seed cards and place judges, records the actual times and placement for each
event and maintains the running score of the meet. Each team provides their own scorers.
The "white shirts" who run the meets and determine that each swimmer is performing the event correctly..
The hosting team sells food and drinks during swim meets. Volunteers are needed to staff the concession stand.
